4th Grade "Chance" Recorder Composition

Scaffolding is a key point in this composition in order to ensure student success. I also have included a check box for each step, that way students don't get too far going in the wrong direction.  I have fond this way to compose extremely effective.

Step 1:Students will compose 6 different 4-beat patterns.
Step 2 students will roll the dice  times to choose  “A”and "B"  patterns.

Step 3: Students will use G, A, & B  to assign pitches to the notes in your rhythm patterns; writing the pitches below the notes.
Step 4. Student will transfer their pitched rhythm patterns to the staff in  in AABA form.
Step 5. Students will finalize their composition by starting and ending on G, ending with a half note and adding a a title....

Step 6. (If students choose)  Tell me something about your composition.  Does it sound a certain way to you?  Did you choose your title for any reason?  Did you change any pitches when you heard what it sounded like? Why?

   I have included for download;
-a PDF of the composition document
-a word document in case you would like to modify for your needs
-a Notebook file to use when teaching this composition.

Classroom Instrument Identification - Names

Within this file you will fine a little quiz/game for classroom instruments.  Students can push the button with the name of an instrument to hear the name spoken.  They can then pull the picture they think matches that name.  If they are right the instrument will disappear, if not it will fly back to it's spot.

(Soon to come, the sound identification version)

Pitches on the Staff - Labeling & Identifying

With this file Students will be able to label pitches on the staff   They will drag notes on the staff to match written pitches And in on the last page, it's all them.  They will be able to both drag notes on the staff as well as pull a pitch name to identify the note.

Solfege Sight Singing Excercises

There are three "sets" of sight singing exercises in this notebook file.  Each set has both pitches on the staff, and easy to ready notes with solfege pitches written below them.

Set 1- Sol & Mi
Set 2- Sol & La
Set 3- Sol, La & Mi

Rhythm Kooshball

This a great way to practice rhythms with your students.  Students can throw a Kooshball (although i found a larger soft ball to be more successful) at the SMART Board to open up a rhythm to clap.  The kids WANT to practice rhythm patterns!!!

I am not the original creator (I wish I was though).   However, I made some layout changes and changed the rhythm patterns to suit my students in grades 1-6.

Have fun!
