4th Grade "Chance" Recorder Composition

    Scaffolding is a key point in this composition in order to ensure student success. I also have included a check box for each step, that way students don't get too far going in the wrong direction.  I have fond this way to compose extremely effective.

Step 1:Students will compose 6 different 4-beat patterns.
Step 2 students will roll the dice  times to choose  “A”and "B"  patterns.

Step 3: Students will use G, A, & B  to assign pitches to the notes in your rhythm patterns; writing the pitches below the notes.
Step 4. Student will transfer their pitched rhythm patterns to the staff in  in AABA form.
Step 5. Students will finalize their composition by starting and ending on G, ending with a half note and adding a a title....

Step 6. (If students choose)  Tell me something about your composition.  Does it sound a certain way to you?  Did you choose your title for any reason?  Did you change any pitches when you heard what it sounded like? Why?

   I have included for download;
-a PDF of the composition document
-a word document in case you would like to modify for your needs
-a Notebook file to use when teaching this composition.
